Plant Parts [Morphology]

1. petal (Gk., a flower leaf) 2. corolla (L., corolla, a little crown) - the floral series lying between the calyx and the androecium; composed of petals, it is typically white or brightly-colored. 3. anther (Gk., flowering) - the sporogenous portion or pollen-bearing part of the stamen. 4. filament (L., filamentum, a thread) the stalk which supports the anther in a stamen. 5. stamen (L., stamen, a filament) the basic unit of the androecium; the pollen-producing organ of the flower; the male part of the flower; generally though to be homologous with a microsporophyll. 6. receptacle (L., receptaculum, a reservoir) the expanded apex of the pedicel upon which the flower series are inserted. 7. stigma (Gk., a point) the point or region of the gynoecium which is receptive to pollen; usually apical and in the form of a point, disc, lobe or line. 8. style (Gk., a column) the elongate neck of the gynoecium; the portion between the ovary and the stigma. 9. ovary (L., ovum an egg) the lower swollen portion of the gynoecium which contains the ovules. 10. pistil (L., pistillum, a pestle) a component of the gynoecium, consisting of a single stigma, style, and placenta. 11. sepal (Gk., a covering) 12. calyx (Gk., a cup) the outermost floral series; composed of sepals, it is typically green and serves to cover the flower bud. 13. peduncle - the stalk of an inflorescence or solitary flower. 14. leaf blade 15. leaf petiole 16. axillary bud at node 17. main stem 24. tap root (primary root) 25. branch roots (secondary roots) |
