| Plant Family Characteristics for Field Identification | NAME: |
| FAMILY | CALYX | COROLLA | ANDROECIUM | GYNOECIUM | FRUIT | LEAVES | OTHER NOTES, common genera |
| Subclass Hamamelidae: This is the smallest subclass within the dicots. New data suggest this is an artificial group of families. Members are primarily woody plants with reduced wind-pollinated (anemophilous) flowers. The more advanced families have unisexual flowers born in catkins and have indehiscent, one-seeded, unilocular fruits. Catkins are compact inflorescences of unisexual flowers, typically lacking petals but having bracts. These separate male and female catkins may occur on the same individual plant (monoecious) or on separate plants (dioecious). | |||||||
